Four types of services using the ETNS are defined:

Public Service Applications

This category includes not-for-profit and community-based services for the general public that are pan-European in nature.

Public Service Numbers are identified by a ‘1’ following the ETNS code, except that numbers beginning with ‘19’ following the ETNS code are not available. The remainder of the number is three digits in length and cannot be truncated.

Example:  +3883-1-XXX

The service identifier ‘1’ combined with the short remainder of the number is intended to provide numbers that are easily remembered.

Customer Service Applications

This category includes services for customers of corporations and other organisations, including non-profit organisations.
Customer Service Applications include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Pre-sales and promotions
  • Sales
  • After-sales and customer care
  • Dealer support
  • International and inter-governmental services

Customer Service Numbers are identified by a ‘3’ following the ETNS code. The remainder of the number is either:

  • eight digits in length for numbers beginning with ‘0’ or ‘2’ to ‘9’ following ‘3883 3’; or
  • four digits in length for numbers beginning with ‘1’ following ‘3883 3’.

Example 1:  +3883-3-0XXX-XXXX

Example 2:  +3883-3-1XXX

Corporate Networks

This type of service is for corporations and other organisations, including non-profit and governmental organisations, that allows these organisations to map their networks onto the 3883 number space. This service is not intended for customer service applications or for individuals.

Corporate Network Numbers are identified by a ‘5’ following the ETNS code. The remainder of the number is nine digits in length.

Example:  +3883-5-XXX-XXX-XXX

The size of the number block allocated corresponds to the size of the organisation which will use the numbers.

Personal Numbering

This type of service is intended for the private or business use of individuals. Personal Numbering Services provide individuals with physical mobility within Europe and between fixed and mobile services.

Personal Numbers are identified by a ‘7’ following the ETNS code. The remainder of the number is nine digits in length.

Example:  +3883-7-XXX-XXX-XXX

Designation of European Service Identities

The service identifier codes for these four ETNS services, known as European Service Identities, were designated by the ETNS Administrator on 16 & 17 October 2000. The designations were revised effective from 12 June 2001. The text of the designations are available for download. Other European Service Identities may be designated from time to time.
