The CEPT’s Working Group Spectrum Engineering (WG SE) was established in 1990 as a continuation of previous sub-working group RR4 of the former CEPT’s Committee “T” (Telecommunications). The WG SE was to become one of the main subordinate bodies of the then established European Radiocommunications Committee (ERC) that was in 2001 merged with ECTRA to form the current Electronic Communications Committee of the CEPT.

The WG SE had its first meeting on 19-23 March 1990 in Copenhagen, under the chairmanship of Mr. Pierre Aboudarham (France). The first meeting was attended by 22 participants from 12 European countries. The agenda of the first meeting comprised issues like preparation for WARC-92, Citizens Band (CB) equipment, DECT, MS-TV co-existence, ISM and so on.

From then on the WG SE continued its work by meeting several times a year in plenary sessions (typically three times a year) and in between the plenary sessions a lot of actual studies are developed within the various project teams. Today, the plenary meetings of WG SE are attended by around 50 participants from 20-25 CEPT countries and various connected organisations and associations. Each year WG SE produces some 10-15 technical recommendations and reports on compatibility of various radicommunications systems and services.

WG SE chairmen:

  • Mr. Pierre Aboudarham, France (1990-1994);
  • Mr. Terry Jeacock, United Kingdom (1994-2000);
  • Mr. Eric Fournier, France (2001-2004);
  • Mr. Christoph Wöste, Germany (2004-current).

The following is a list of all WG SE project teams since its beginning. Normally the life-span of each project team is about 1-2 years, however some of the project teams have continued their activity for many years, the longest being SE7, active since April 1991.

NB: Active PTs and their current chairmen are highlighted in bold.
