When calls to ETNS Numbers are routed between networks, the dialled ETNS number must be translated to another numbers (or numbers) to ensure correct routing. The method of number translation used for carriage of calls to ETNS numbers is known as double translation. Routing of calls via double translation may be implemented in one of two ways.
The first method utilises:
- the speech path between the exchange that interrogates a database to obtain a Routing Number to facilitate onward routing of the call to the ETNS Number, and the exchange in which the provision of the ETNS service is triggered and the call is forwarded to the called party; and
- the signalling path between the exchange in which the provision of the ETNS service is triggered, and the database for obtaining a Terminating Number enabling the call to be routed to its intended destination.
The second method utilises only the signalling path between the first exchange that can undertake a translation of the ETNS Number that has been called, and the database for obtaining a Terminating Number enabling the call to be routed to its intended destination. |
