The Presidency of the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) has today unveiled its new streamlined management structure designed to strengthen its work across Europe.

Announcing the restructure at its 50th Anniversary Conference in Montreux, Switzerland, Thomas Ewers, joint President of the CEPT, said:

“As the pace of change of technology increases so too does the demand for efficiency. This fast pace and complex communications environment requires us to take a more joined-up and strategic approach.

“The CEPT restructure and new focus enables us to deliver greater efficiency through effective co-ordination of our work to create a dynamic market in the field of European posts and electronic communications.”

The CEPT will improve its co-ordination and harmonisation role at a European level by bringing together its three main areas of work through a joint Presidency to ensure a more joined-up approach. The joint Presidency is now held by the Chairmen of the most senior groups within each of its main areas of work:

  • Mr. Thomas Ewers – Chairman of The Electronic Communications Committee (ECC), responsible for electronic communications harmonisation
  • Mr. Ulrich Dammann – Chairman of The European Committee for Postal Regulation (CERP), responsible for postal regulation, and
  • Mr. Anders Jönsson – Chairman of The Committee for ITU Policy (Com-ITU), responsible for engagement by CEPT members with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU)

In addition, the CEPT will focus on a set of key priorities. These are to:

  • maintain and strengthen its technical expertise
  • maintain co-ordination in wider international fora (ITU and UPU)
  • take a more strategic approach with its policy work and decision-making
  • ensure complementary and constructive engagement with EU activities
  • give greater emphasis to economic considerations in spectrum management
  • improve communications and arrangements for stakeholder participation in its work

The CEPT 50th Anniversary Conference is taking place at the Montreux Music and Convention Centre, Switzerland, on 21-22 October. It brings together leaders and experts in spectrum management and internet governance providing an excellent opportunity to get up-to-date insights into the world of European telecommunications.
